Ryedale Festival Featured Artists Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Elin Manahan Thomas to perform at Royal Wedding

Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason

It has been announced that Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the brilliant young cellist and BBC Young Musician of the Year 2016, will be among the performers at the wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle on 19 May at St George’s Chapel Windsor. Sheku announced in a tweet: “I’m so excited and honoured to perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. I was bowled over when Ms Markle called me to ask if I would play during the ceremony.”

Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas will also be performing at the Royal Wedding. For Ryedale she gives a late-night candlelit recital entitled ‘Game of Thrones’ on 22nd July at All Saints Hemsley, as well as working with young singers from across Ryedale at the Festival Masterclass on 21st July.

Festival director, Chris Glynn, said: ‘I’m thrilled that the festival will welcome two Royal Wedding performers this July and hope they will inspire new people to come and discover what the festival has to offer.’

Sheku performs in two recitals at the Ryedale Festival, at Castle Howard and Duncombe Park, in a programme including works by Debussy and Brahms, accompanied by his pianist sister Isata.

With a varied programme of concerts and events in venues all over the area, from Castle Howard to the Grand Hall at Scarborough Spa, the Ryedale500 scheme offers 500 festival tickets priced at only £1 for under 25s.
