A much-admired prize-winner at the Leeds International Piano Competition 2018, Mario Häring conjures a world of colour at the piano. He explores how Debussy was inspired by his daughter Chou-chou, an ancient book of counterpoint exercises, Moorish gypsy music, ragtime, Japanese art and French folk music. He also enters Schumann’s musical picture gallery Carnaval in the company of Pierrot, Harlequin and other characters from Italian comedy, as revellers at a masked ball.
