Raise, raise the voice

A joyful opening night, as Henry Purcell honours St Cecilia, music’s patron saint. Composed in a spirit of restoration and renewal, after civil war, plague and bitter division had torn England apart, his odes are brought to life by The Dunedin Consort with their trademark brilliance, vitality and expressive depth. With remarkable pieces from Purcell’s contemporaries woven through the programme, this is a celebration of music’s enduring power to restore, console and bring people together.

‘An ebullient celebration of Purcell, by turns acrobatically percussive and gorgeously alluring’ The Times

Pre-concert reception for supporters of the Ryedale Festival, in Helmsley Town Hall.
