CHAPEL:
Dowland’s Foundry

John Dowland Music from A Third Book of Songs and A Pilgrim’s Solace

To mark the 400th anniversary of his death, four outstanding singers and a lutenist explore the hidden world of John Dowland’s late masterpieces. From politically charged elegies and coded royal tributes to the hard-won consolations of his final songs, Dowland’s Foundry brings these songs into vivid technicolour. Wry, tender and sometimes irreverent, they reveal a composer of wit and depth.

GREAT HALL:
Dances and Duos

Laura van der Heijden cello
Max Baillie violin
Marcel Comendant cimbalom
Misha Mullov-Abbado double bass

Artist in Residence Laura van der Heijden invites the cimbalom – a Hungarian hammered dulcimer – to join her extraordinary ensemble of creative and gifted musicians on an evocative journey through folk, jazz, baroque music and more. From inventive duos by Bach and Bartók, to enticing Ravel, Brahms at his most unbuttoned, and new music by Misha Mullov-Abbado, these are personally selected favourites, with many surprises along the way.

Interval bar.
A reception for Benefactors and Patrons of the Ryedale Festival will be held in the Garden Hall at the interval.
