An irresistible celebration of English music by ‘the most exciting conductor working in Britain today’ (Daily Telegraph) as his hand-picked orchestra presents a panorama of national imagination, from pastoral lyricism and sparkling wit to the sheer pleasure of a great tune. After a famous Gilbert and Sullivan overture we move into the dreamlike world of Delius. Vaughan Williams’s beloved The Lark Ascending is partnered by music of tenderness and charm from Elgar, Walton’s dashing portrait of wartime workers assembling a Spitfire, and the fresh modern voice of Richard Rodney Bennett. A glorious parade of British light music favourites by the likes of Eric Coates completes a concert full of vivid colour and affectionate nostalgia.

‘this hand-picked super group has a reputation that outshines most established ensembles and brings audiences out in droves’ The Guardian

‘Ravishing, marvellous and truly captivating. I’m only giving this five stars because I’m not allowed to award ten.’ The Daily Mail
