The famous ‘Liverpool Phil’ returns to Ryedale with a programme of classical sparkle and the excitement of a world premiere. Weber’s effervescent Second Symphony, heard in his anniversary year, opens the programme with theatrical flair. Beethoven’s 4th Symphony closes it with wit, energy and inventive lightness. Between them sits a new Flugelhorn Concerto by Gabriel Jackson, one of Britain’s most loved living composers, co-commissioned by the Ryedale Festival for Imogen Whitehead and shaped by the instrument’s warm, glowing voice.
