Schumann Fantasie in C major
An exploration of fantasy as one of music’s most intimate impulses: a space where imagination becomes confession, transformation and escape. Chopin drifts between reverie and grandeur, while Thomas Adès looks to the haunted shadows of John Dowland and Liszt turns song into pure pianistic colour. The concert closes with music of passion and idealism, written by Schumann at white heat, and alive with the spirit of a distant beloved.
