John Chisholm FCA

Born in Stornoway and raised in Morayshire, after training and qualifying in Glasgow John was admitted to membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in 1968. He spent the next 15 years working in various industries in East Africa and England before starting his own accountancy practice in North Yorkshire in 1983.

John became a Trustee of the festival in 2015 with a view to eventually taking on the role of Treasurer. Apart from attending Ryedale Festival and North York Moors Chamber Music Society concerts, he was involved in the early days of the North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre established in 1989 by Mary and Raymond Abbotson. He has also had connections with other local charities as trustee and independent examiner, serving also for a number of years as a Churchwarden of the Church of the Holy Cross, Gilling East.

Musical tastes cover a wide spectrum, traditional jazz having been a longstanding favourite following an introduction to the Clyde Valley Stompers on tour in the north of Scotland in the 1950s; his musical skills are limited to playing the bagpipes many years ago. John lives in Grimston, Gilling East with his wife Aileen and they have two children and four grandsons.
