Organists from across the north of England join forces to celebrate the centenary of one of Ryedale’s distinguished musicians. Born in Malton in 1917, Francis Jackson was a chorister at York Minster, later returning as Organist for over thirty years, while building a wide reputation as a thrilling recitalist and fine composer. Friends and colleagues take to the superb organ St Mary’s Church to offer a musical birthday celebration of his 100 years in music, including a performance of the Toccata he famously played at a royal wedding in 1963, and ending with all joining to sing the hymn tune which is one of his most celebrated compositions.
