Debussy (arr. Beamish) – La mer
Sally Beamish – Seafarer Trio

The ancient clifftop church of St Oswald, dedicated to Fishermen and Townsfolk (and described by Pevsner as easily the greatest in the area), is the setting for two musical seascapes. Sally Beamish’s widely acclaimed transcription of Debussy’s three great symphonic sea sketches is followed by her own melodrama The Seafarer. Inspired by a famous Anglo-Saxon poem, it explores a world where nature is an overwhelming force and a sea voyage is used to represent the journey of life.

‘a magical rethink that unashamedly shrinks Debussy’s grand evocations down to a more intimate scale, but loses nothing of La Mer’s power and detail’ – The Scotsman

‘Sally Beamish has produced a colossal, creative masterpiece’ – The Herald
