Bach – Suite no. 6 in D major
trad. Catalan (arr. Beamish) – Song of the Birds

The celebrated cellist brings his unique and deeply expressive way with Bach to the chapel of Castle Howard in the longest and grandest of all the solo cello suites. This is followed by Sally Beamish’s arrangement of an old Catalan carol which describes the infant Jesus being welcomed to the world by eagles, sparrows, nightingales and wrens, and was made famous by Pablo Casals who described it as ‘the noblest expression of life.’
